Familiarize self with State Board of Education procedures and policies that surround the adoption of new TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and instructional materials for social studies in Texas, including relevant state laws and regulations pertaining to education and instructional materials  Research and write a comprehensive report on the process and timeline for review and adoption of new TEKS and instructional materials to be shared with ICS, the Outreach Liaison, and the Greater Dallas JCRC Executive Director  Develop relationships with decision makers to influence the enactment of appropriate criteria for adoption, e.g., on religious neutrality  Develop relationships with representatives of the publishers that will submit social studies materials for adoption  Examine resources at the national resource center at the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies and formulate a plan with ICS to address materials of concern if problems are identified  Maintain communication with ICS regarding all relevant information such as Board of Education announcements relating to the revision of TEKS and adoption of new social studies materials  In conjunction with the Outreach Liaison, organize and support lay leaders from the volunteer textbook committee of Greater Dallas JCRC and from the larger Texas Jewish community to participate on the State Textbook Review Panel, attend public hearings, and otherwise assist ICS/JCRC with the adoption process  Work with ICS/JCRC to improve TEKs and new instructional materials as the process moves forward

Identify textbooks and other materials in use in public schools in the Dallas area and create a database of textbooks  Work with ICS to determine responses to problematic materials found locally and publicize findings to stimulate community interest in the project  Publicize the project in Dallas and the broader Texas Jewish community and oneself as the contact for local concerns dealing with Jewish and Israel-related content in the public schools  Raise awareness of the upcoming state adoption in the Jewish community in Texas and encourage support for the project and for ICS in general  In conjunction with the Executive Director of Greater Dallas JCRC, establish a volunteer textbook committee of the JCRC to help address the textbook adoption process  Mobilize parents and concerned lay leaders to get involved in local school districts and state curriculum committees  Participate with ICS staff at teacher conferences and help to organize an intensive teacher training workshop  Disseminate ICS curricula and track distribution  Review textbooks as needed in consultation with ICS

Texas dominates fastest-growing cities list June 22, 2010 - Star-Telegram Texas notched five of the top 10 spots for population growth among cities with over 100,000 people, according to new census estimates for 2009. Fort Worth ranked fifth, adding 23,276 residents. It was a continuation of Cowtown's 33 percent growth spurt since 2000 as the population grew from 543,338 to 727,525.
